For Bereavement Professionals

Behind every Keepsake Bottle is someone who recognised a family might benefit from it.

Bereavement midwives, neonatal nurses, hospice teams, infant feeding specialists, charity workers, and many others provide extraordinary support to families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Often, it is these professionals who recognise when a small act of care could make a lasting difference.

A Shared Gift exists to support that work.

Created from lived experience, A Shared Gift is The Milk Gift’s charitable offering. Through partnerships with hospitals, hospices, charities, and healthcare professionals, we provide Keepsake Bottles to selected bereaved families.

At its heart, A Shared Gift is exactly what the name suggests.

A way for one family’s support to be shared with another.

Together, we can help families feel seen in both their feeding experience and their grief, recognising that however long it lasted, it mattered.

The Keepsake Bottle

The Keepsake Bottle is a handcrafted keepsake containing a small amount of preserved breastmilk.

It was intentionally designed to be simple. When families are navigating loss, even small decisions can feel overwhelming. Rather than offering multiple designs and options, The Keepsake Bottle provides one thoughtful, carefully considered keepsake.

Its simple, gender-neutral design offers a safe choice at a time when choosing can feel difficult. The aim is not to add another decision, but to offer something meaningful, lasting, and accessible to all families.

For some parents, breastmilk remains an important connection to their baby. For others, there may be stored breastmilk and uncertainty about what to do with it.

The Keepsake Bottle offers a way to preserve a small part of that experience and recognise its significance.

Frequently asked questions

Why A Shared Gift?

A Shared Gift was founded on a simple belief: however long a feeding experience lasted, it mattered.
Breastfeeding after loss is often overlooked, yet for many families it remains a meaningful part of their connection with their baby.
By preserving a small amount of breastmilk in a handcrafted keepsake, A Shared Gift helps families hold onto a tangible reminder of that connection.

How do families receive The Keepsake Bottle?

Usually, The Keepsake Bottle is provided through our partnerships with hospitals, bereavement teams, charities, and healthcare professionals.

As a small business, we create a limited number of keepsakes each year. For this reason, A Shared Gift is not currently open for direct applications and we are unfortunately unable to offer a keepsake to every family who gets in touch.

Can I purchase The Keepsake Bottle?

The Keepsake Bottle is a charitable offering and is not generally available to purchase.

From time to time, we may consider a very limited number of commissioned keepsakes outside of the charitable offering. If this is something you would like to discuss, please feel free to contact us.

If you are looking for a way to preserve your milk, The Milk Gift also offers a collection of bespoke breastmilk jewellery, handcrafted using your own milk and created with the same care and attention.

How is A Shared Gift funded?

A portion of profit from each sale funds the creation of Th Keepsake Bottle. A Shared Gift is also funded through keepsake donations.

Every contribution helps cover the materials, packaging, and time needed to create and gift keepsakes to bereaved families.

By supporting The Milk Gift, you help extend that support to other families and allow more keepsakes to be gifted in the future 🤍
